  TITLE     YARN SNOWMAN
DESCRIPTION     Using yarn and Styrofoam balls make a miniature snowman
  DETAILS
Wrap white yarn around a small Styrofoam ball. I used yarn I found at a craft store which has bits of filmy fabric woven into the yarn, giving the snowman a more snowy appearance. But plain yarn will do. The body should be larger than the head. My snowman's head is just yarn wrapped into a ball so I could have the exact size I wanted. When you finish wrapping the yarn, glue the ends to the whole. Using one half of your scissors or a skewer, poke holes in both balls. To join the balls, insert a pipe cleaner in the body and then through the head. Poke holes in the side of the body and insert black pipe cleaner arms.

Make two identical hats out of colored paper by placing the top of your hat on the fold. Glue a pipe cleaner to the inside of the hat and poke it into the head. Glue as much of the hat together as space allows. Using a hole punch make buttons, eyes and nose. Cut a smile. Glue them in place. Use narrow ribbon for the scarf. This guy isn't going to stand alone so make a stand out of a cardboard square covered with colored paper. Gently flatten the bottom of the snowman with your hand, and glue him on the base. If you're working with little children make a big snowman, otherwise the project requires too many small movements and lots of adult supervision. It might be nice to have water and a paper towel on hand to de-stick your fingers as you affix buttons and eyes
