We always go around the table at Thanksgiving and each
person briefly talks about what he is especially thankful for. Isn't
that
standard at everyone's thanksgiving table? Last year, I decided we would
make a mural. I have a roll of brown paper from which I cut a four foot
piece. The paper is 2 feet wide. In a room away from where we were
gathered, I laid the paper on a long table along with marking pens,
pencils and rayons. The grandchildren were in charge of getting
everyone to participate, taking each of the guests by hand
and leading them one by one to the project. Between the main course and
dessert we taped the mural to a wall in the dining room and everyone got
up and explained what their drawing was about. It was both moving and
funny. On her own, our granddaughter spent time the next day making
pictures of what she was thankful for. Perhaps we all thought a bit
more deeply about our blessings. |
