Make a pouch to store all those valentines you'll be bringing home from school on Valentines Day! You'll want to use extra heavy paper so the pouch is sturdy. We used water color paper from a tablet, cutting off the perforations. What was left measured 11 1/2 by 9. We decided to make our pouch look like an oversized envelope, so we drew a flap on the back, addressed the front, and made a heart stamp. Holding the two sheets together, we punched holes along the outside on three sides. Adult help might be needed here as punching holes in the heavy paper required hand strength. Using an oversize needle with a big eye and red yarn, we whip stitched the envelope together, running the yarn through the holes.
To whip stitch, bring the yarn back through the stitch you've just
finished. Make sure the yarn is long enough to finish a side, tying off at the corners rather than somewhere in the middle. We added a double stranded yarn handle and tied bows at the corners. Your imagination is the only limit to what you can do with this project. Get creative. Add beads, glitter, color, paint, draw or paste on your own designs. You might have lots of "stuff" available for decoration and see what happens. |
