With all the battery operated and electronic toys available today, it's amazing how successful this simple game you and I played when we were growing up is with grandchildren. When she comes to visit, my seven year old granddaughter always wants to play. Most toy stores carry jacks. The challenge is to be the first to pick up all the jacks in a prescribed motion. Toss the ball in the air, pick up one jack and catch the ball after it bounces all with the same hand. If you succeed, it's still your turn, go for two, then three etc. You will be
accumulating a pile of jacks, and hopefully will successfully get them all. If you miss, however, you forfeit your turn as well as all the jacks you've accumulated and it's your opponents turn. This takes some practice. I play be the "old" rules, my granddaughter gets to throw the ball with one hand and gather the jacks with the other. |
